Five “dangerous terrorists” were killed over the weekend in the Algerian province of Bejaia in the latest operation by the National People’s Army, according to the Ministry of Defence.

During the operation, five Kalashnikov machine-guns were also recovered.

According to the ministry’s statement: “As part of the fight against terrorism and following a search and sweeping operation at the level of the Daira of El-Kseur, [province] of Bejaia, a detachment of the National People’s Army shot dead…five dangerous terrorists and recovered five Kalashnikov-style machine guns each equipped with three loaders.”

These operations confirm the efforts of the National People’s Army in the prosecution of these criminals and their elimination throughout the national territory.

The severity of the operation is a first for Bejaia which has experienced relative calm compared to the rest of the neighbouring provinces when it comes to terror activity. During the height of terror in the Black Decade, Bejaia experienced little activity compared to the high levels in neighbouring towns and cities.

At the end of last month, another counter-terror operation intercepted a cell in which a terrorist, who was accused of rallying terror groups in 2004, was killed and weapons haul uncovered.

Murder by policeman

A functionary policeman executed his wife and his father-in-law and shot two of his sisters-in-law and mother-in-law on Saturday night in Tiaret.

The three women remain in critical condition in the Youssef-Damerdji hospital.

The alleged culprit was arrested by security services whilst an investigation is underway to determine the motive behind the murders.
