The Secretary General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has welcomed the “positive” measures taken for Palestinian reconciliation, Safa News Agency reported on Monday. Yousef Ben Ahmed Al-Othaimin also hailed the Palestinian Authority measures related to taking up the responsibilities of the government ministries in the Gaza Strip, calling it an important step towards uniting the people of Palestine.

The OIC official praised Egypt’s mediation efforts and sponsorship of the comprehensive Palestinian dialogue. He hopes that this will lead to a real and active political partnership under the framework of the Palestine Liberation Organisation. Such a partnership, explained Al-Othaimin, would lead to ending the Israeli occupation and the establishment of a Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.

He reiterated that the OIC is ready to support any measure that reinforces Palestinian national unity. In conclusion, the OIC chief called upon the international community to support the Palestinian reconciliation efforts and afford guarantees for its success, as this will reinforce peace and stability in the region.
