Saudi FM says US policy won’t affect cooperation with Russia

Saudi Foreign Minister, Adel Al-Jubeir, has said that US policy with Russia will not affect Riyadh’s plans for cooperation with Moscow.

“Our mission is to develop relations with Russia in various directions,” Russian TASS news agency reported Al- Jubeir as saying.

“The sanctions imposed on Russia by the West only concern Russia and the West” he added.

Al-Jubair said that Riyadh hopes the sanctions imposed on Russia will be lifted soon, stressing that the Kingdom’s investments in Russia do not violate international law.

“Our relations with the United States are strategic, but we also want to improve our relations with Russia, because good relations with the United States, Russia and China are in the interest of our country and for the Middle East and the whole world”.

During the first visit by a Saudi king to Russia, King Salman bin Abdul Aziz and Russian President, Vladimir Putin, underlined the rapprochement between the two countries by signing important agreements in the military and energy fields.

Talks between Riyadh and Moscow have resulted in the signing of many agreements worth billions of dollars, including agreements to purchase advanced weapons systems.

The deal includes contracts to purchase Russian advanced S-400 air defence systems, the Kornet Anti-Tank Missile systems, TOS-1 A rocket launchers, IGS-30 grenade launchers and AK- 103 Kalashnikov machine guns, Saudi Press Agency, SPA reported.
