A political science professor at Qatar University, Dr. Mohammed Al-Mesfer, has said that Doha considers the Palestinian reconciliation agreement between Hamas and Fatah as an achievement that serves the Palestinian cause.

In an interview with Quds Press, Al-Mesfer said that “Qatar has been calling for reconciliation between the Palestinian factions and did not object to any of the rounds of talks that took place to achieve it whether in Makkah, Yemen, Africa or in Egypt”.

“Qatar supports all efforts to end Palestinian division and will make every effort to reconstruct Gaza. Qatar has supported and continues to support the Palestinian people in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip,” he said.

He explained that Doha’s support for the Palestinian people in the West Bank and Gaza Strip is a matter of principle which will not change under any circumstances.

Al-Mesfer pointed out that he feared Israel would put obstacles in the way of reconciliation or try to steer it towards its benefit.

“The Israelis will do everything in their power so that peace with Gaza serves them. Their first target will be to disarm Hamas and control the border crossings,” he added.
