Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has announced a $284,000 grant in support of the cardiology department of the Nasser Medical Centre in the south of the Gaza Strip, the Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported yesterday.

In a statement, the QRCS said that this new grant is part of its plan to support and develop the health services in some areas that suffer from a lack of material and human resources in the Gaza Strip.

The grant is implemented in coordination with the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza.

“The cardiology department at Nasser Hospital is the central department of heart diseases in the southern governorates of the Gaza Strip, serving 650,000 people,” Department head Montaser Ismail said.

He said the department cares for 150-200 patients a month.

Ayman Al-Farra, director of Nasser Medical Hospital, said the funds would help increase total capacity to 52 beds, improve diagnostic services and help reduce the patient transfer bill for treatment abroad.
