Four gunmen stormed the house of prominent Palestinian poet, Mahmoud Darwish, in Israel’s Jadeidi-Makr village and stole his personal belongings on Tuesday, according to a statement issued by the police yesterday.
The unidentified men broke into Darwish’s house at 23:00 on Tuesday and stole his personal bag in addition to many gifts which he had received from numerous prominent figures.
Some 200,000 shekels ($57,244) were also stolen by the intruders, the police statement added.
Darwish’s brother, Ahmed, told Arab48 that “the thieves have managed to steal some of his [Darwish’s] personal souvenirs, manuscripts, a map of Palestine and his private pens and drafts.”
“The robbers apparently thought that the bag contained a large amount of money, or some precious objects,” Ahmed added.
