Saudi Arabia reduces work visa validity for private sector

October 24, 2017 at 2:01 pm

Saudi Minister of Labour and Social Development Dr. Ali Al-Ghafis issued a decree yesterday reducing the validity of employment visas issued by the ministry for the private sector from two years to one year.

The decision does not include visas issued for government agencies and domestic workers.

The decision is expected to increase the cost of recruiting foreign workers.

According to the ministry’s annual report issued earlier this year the number of work visas issued for the private sector fell by 29 per cent to reach 1.4 million in 2016 compared to 1.97 million issued in 2015.
