Yemen: Sudan’s embassy raided by Houthi-Saleh forces

October 31, 2017 at 11:53 am

Yemen’s foreign ministry confirmed that the Houthi armed group and forces loyal to former President Ali Abdullah Saleh raided Sudan’s embassy in Sana’a yesterday, the Anadolu Agency reported.

“The [Houthi] militia has a history of insulting Yemen and its people by assaulting diplomatic missions since they overran Sanaa,” a statement from the Yemen foreign ministry read.

Sudan is a member of the Saudi-led coalition invited by the internationally recognised President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi to help regain control of the country shortly after the Houthi group took control over the capital Sana’a in 2014. The coalition has pounded Yemen with a systematic bombing campaign since March 2015.

A Sudanese parliamentarian last week called upon the government to withdraw troops from Yemen. Some 412 Sudanese soldiers have died fighting in Yemen thus far, including high ranked officials.

This is the third time the Houthi and Saleh alliance has attacked the Sudanese embassy in Sana’a.
