Israeli government appoints Meir Ben Shabbat head of national security

The Israeli government on Sunday unanimously approved the appointment of Meir Ben- Shabbat as the head of the national security council and adviser to the prime minister for national security.

“I think there is no one worthier than him for this position” Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu said in remarks to the appointment.

“I am sure that my colleagues in the cabinet and the government have also been impressed by the qualities he brings to this job, his sharpness of mind, his rich experience, the clarity of which he presents things,” he added.

Ben-Shabbat served for 28 years in the Israeli Security Agency, Shin Bet including as head of its southern division, which is responsible for the Gaza Strip.
