The Egyptian authorities decided last night to open the Rafah crossing from tomorrow to Monday in order to allow travellers to travel in both directions.

The Palestinian embassy in Cairo announced the Egyptian authorities’ decision to open the Rafah crossing.

Palestinian Minister of Civil Affairs Hussein Al-Sheikh announced that the crossing would be re-opened on 15 November, after the reconciliation government took over all of the ministries and crossings in Gaza, but this did not happen.

Palestinian officials said the delay was from the Egyptian side and that the crossing would open “soon”.

Sources have, however, said that Saudi Arabia and Egypt are using the crossing as a toll to force the Palestinians to enter into negotiations with Israel and agree to a deal to end the 70-year conflict.
