A German court ruled yesterday that Kuwait Airways is not obliged to carry Israeli passengers as long as local laws stipulate this.

The Frankfurt state court rejected a complaint filed by an Israeli citizen against Kuwait Airways, accusing it of discrimination for refusing to allow him to travel on one of its flights.

The passenger had booked a ticket from Frankfurt to Bangkok, with a stopover in Kuwait.

When the airlines discovered that the passenger was an Israeli citizen, his booking was cancelled, based on a law issued in 1964 prohibiting agreements with Israelis, as Kuwait does not recognise Israel.

In its verdict, the court in Frankfurt said it was “not reasonable for the airline to transport a person if doing so risked severe legal consequences for its employees in Kuwait.”
