EU recommends ban on arms sales to Saudi Arabia

European Parliament MPs voted in favour of a resolution to ban selling weapons to Saudi Arabia as a result of accusations of the Kingdom violating human rights in Yemen.

The officials also voted in favour of sending urgent humanitarian aid to Yemen and called for finding a Political solution to the Yemen crisis.Some 539 European Parliament MPs voted in favour of the resolution, 13 voted against it, while 81 abstained.

Saudi Arabia has been leading a military alliance in Yemen against the Houthi armed group since 2015 upon the request of Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi.

International human rights organisations have accused Riyadh of commuting war crimes in Yemen.
