Morocco airline to sue Algeria FM for defamation

December 4, 2017 at 9:08 am

Morocco’s state owned carrier, Royal Air Maroc, will file a lawsuit with the Paris District Court against Algerian Foreign Minister, Abdelkader Messahel, on charges of defamation.

French M6 TV channel reported that a prominent French law firm has met with representatives from Royal Air Maroc and Moroccan lawyers at the company’s headquarters in Casablanca to discuss the lawsuit.

In October, Messahel accused Royal Air Maroc of transporting drugs to Sub-Saharan African countries. “Royal Air Morocco carries more than just passengers,” he said.

The minister’s comments stirred controversy in Morocco and Algeria, with Rabat recalled its ambassador to Algiers.
