Qatari Emir Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani yesterday stressed that Doha rejects the recent American decision to recognise Jerusalem as the Israeli capital.

Speaking to the Hamas chief, Ismail Haniyeh, Al Thani added that the Jerusalem issue is “the fate of a nation”, adding that he supports the Palestinian people in this “critical” time.

Qatari Foreign Minister, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, emphasised: “The need to take collective action and collective communication with the US in order for it to back down from its decision.”

He also called for forming a clear Arab and Muslim mechanism to confront the American president’s decision, and expressed his hope that the Arabs and Muslims take actions beyond condemnations.

The minister also noted that the American president’s decision “will affect the future of the cause and the entire region”, adding “this is a dangerous escalation and is the death sentence of the peace process between the Palestinians and Israelis.”
