Russia may resume flights to Egypt in February

December 11, 2017 at 2:06 pm

Russia is ready in principle to resume direct passenger flights to Egypt and an agreement is expected to be signed in the near future, Russian President Vladimir Putin said after meeting Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi today.

Russia’s Minister of Transport Maksim Sokolov said flights could begin as early as in February.

Direct flights from Russia to Egypt ceased in 2015 after a passenger plane crashed shortly after taking off from the resort town of Sharm El-Sheikh killing all 224 people on board.

Details surrounding the cause of the crash have yet to be revealed although both parties opened investigations to discover if the plane had malfunctioned or been targeted by militants on the ground.
