Palestinians living in the Qatar funded Hamad City in the besieged Gaza Strip will not have to make any repayments in 2018, the Head of the Qatari Committee for the Reconstruction of Gaza, Ambassador Mohammed Al-Emadi announced yesterday.

The official, who is on a visit to Gaza, also pledged $3 million for the health and education sectors as well as in humanitarian aid.

Al-Emadi reiterated that Qatar would continue its “moral role” in the region, stressing that it is sticking to the right to self-determination.

Qatar, he added, rejects the relocation of the US embassy to Jerusalem and stressed that the Holy City would remain “Palestinian, Arabic and Islamic”.

The announcements were made during Qatar National Day celebrations in the Strip.
