Iran’s foreign strategy is based on lifting entry visa restrictions for foreign visitors, the country’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Consular, Parliamentary and Iranian Affairs Hassan Ghashghavi announced today.

The official news agency, IRNA, quoted Ghasghavi saying: “We declare that we will lift visa restrictions for any country that respects our passport.”

“Although we live in a tense region, we do not have any security or stability concerns in our country.”

With regards to cancelling entry visas to Iraq, he said:“We informed Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Al-Abadi that visa restrictions between the two countries have been lifted.”

Ghashghavi stated that 25,000 foreign citizens, in particular Iraqis, have entered the Arund free zone in the past week.

He noted that the decision to lift visa restrictions on entry into the area has led to an increase in tourism.
