Iraqi sources accused members of the pro-government Popular Mobilisation Forces (PMF) and local officials of smuggling oil from fields south of the city of Mosul.

The media department of the Association of Muslim Scholars yesterday quoted an unnamed Iraqi security source official as saying that “the residents of the Qayyarah area, south of Mosul, complain about toxic gas emissions from the oil fields at a time when the PMF militia and officials steal and smuggle crude oil from the nearby fields.”

He pointed out that smuggling operations are carried out using oil tankers bearing Iraqi number plates with the knowledge of the authorities.

According to the media department, the pro-government militias stormed the city and took control of the oil fields under the pretext of fighting Daesh.
