Unknown armed individuals attacked the home of Libyan Government of National Accord Defence Minister, Al-Mahdi Al-Barghathi, in Tripoli today.

A source in the ministry said: “The Defence Minister’s home located in Janzur, Tripoli, was subjected to an armed attack early this morning by unknown individuals.”

He added that Al-Barghathi was at home at the time of the attack and that his guards confronted the attackers, without causing any injuries.

An investigation has been launched into the incident, the source added.

In late May 2017, the GNA Presidency Council suspended both Al-Barghathi and the Third Force Commander, Jamal Al-Treki, until those responsible for violating the truce and ceasefire in southern Libya are identified.
