The Tabnak news site, a close ally of Iran’s supreme leader Ali Khamenei, has launched an unprecedented attack on Russia, accusing it of deceiving Iran and marginalising its role in Syria’s future.

“Although we opened our media platforms to the Russians we hear that they have frozen any Iranian involvement in the future reconstruction of Syria” the website said in a report translated by Arabi 21 news site.

The site said the agreement signed between the Russian and Syrian governments has completely excluded Iran and Iranian companies from the reconstruction and investment process in Syria. “According to the Russian-Syrian agreement if Iran wants to participate, even in small actions, it should enter into negotiations with the Russians and not with the Syrian government”, it added.

The website confirmed that this is not media speculation, adding that Iran is very concerned about this agreement, which marginalises its role in Syria.

Tabnak claimed that Iran reached an agreement with the West over its nuclear programme because of its disappointment with the Russians.
