German Defence Minister Ursula Gertrud von der Leyen informed Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Al-Abadi at the Davos Economic Forum in Switzerland that Berlin will continue training Iraqi armed forces.

Von der Leyen confirmed during the meeting her country’s support for Iraq’s unity and stability, noting that her country also seeks to strengthen relations between the two countries.

Since 2014 as many as 150 German soldiers have been training the Kurdish Peshmerga forces. Germany sent more than 30 shipments of weapons weighing more than 2,000 tonnes as part of Berlin’s role in the international coalition fighting against Daesh.
