A delegation of professors from the UK headed back to the UK yesterday following a three day visit in the Libyan city of Benghazi to supervise medical students taking their doctorate exams in Obstetrics and Gynecology from the Faculty of Medicine.

The programme of the visit included supervising three types of exams including written, oral and clinical. The successful graduates will be awarded the doctoral degree from the Faculty of Human Medicine of Benghazi University under the supervision and approval of the Royal College of the UK.

Libya: Senior commander linked to Haftar surrenders

The director of the information office of the University of Benghazi, Elias Jilani, said that the visit came after five years of absence due to the difficult security situations in the city.

Benghazi fell last year to forces loyal to military strongman Khalifa Haftar following a years-long campaign to rid the city of Daesh’s presence. However the security situation in the city is still fragile; families are still being prevented from returning to the city for fear they may be harbouring terrorists and last week a car bomb outside a mosque killed dozens.
