The High Islamic-Christian Committee in Jerusalem warned on Wednesday that new settlement projects being built near the western wall of the Noble Sanctuary of Al-Aqsa are clear evidence of Israel’s plot to “Judaise” the holy city’s Arab, Islamic and Christian identity, Safa News Agency has reported.

The Head of the Committee, Hanna Issa, called for all peace-loving countries to offer “serious support” for the city. The Christian leader, who lives in Jerusalem, called upon the world to recognise the city as a religious capital and the capital of Palestine. This, he said, would help to rein-in the Israeli occupation authorities, which are working to impose their own vision on the city, including the building of a Jewish temple on the ruins of Al-Aqsa Mosque. The latest museum project next to Buraq Wall, Issa added, is part of this scheme.

The senior official pointed out that, under international law, the city of Jerusalem is occupied territory and all such building work carried out by the Israelis is illegal.
