More than 300 Iranians have been arrested in Tehran’s Pasdaran district following riots that resulted in deaths and injuries, a police’s spokesperson said yesterday.
Iran’s Fars news agency cited General Saeed Montazeri Mahdi as saying that fiver security personnel were killed in the clashes.
Videos that have been circulating show a group of protesters driving into scores of security forces, injuring many.
Amid the clashes, security forces fired warning shots and tear gas while rioters responded with swords and handmade bombs, Fars added.
Clashes erupted on Monday after police arrested a Sufi leader in Pasdaran, according to local Iranian sources.
