Israel is holding secret negotiations with the aim of returning the soldiers which are being held as prisoners of war in the besieged Gaza Strip, Ma’an reported defence minister Avigdor Lieberman saying yesterday.
The official claimed that Israel won the war it waged on Gaza in 2014 and now its duty is to return the troops which are missing.
Lieberman said the government was working behind the scenes and was examining everything that had happened, investigating the final route taken by the soldiers before they disappeared and questions everyone who saw or heard what happened.
Authorities have repeatedly come under attack for their inaction with regards the return of Israeli soldiers captured in the Gaza Strip during “Operation Protective Edge”. Earlier this month the mother of Israeli soldier Hadar Goldin, who was captured in Gaza during the offensive, slammed officials for failing to get him back.
In an open letter, Leah Goldin accused the Israeli government of not being serious about enabling the return of her son and other soldiers lost in Gaza.
