Egyptian security officials entered the besieged Gaza Strip through Erez crossing yesterday to follow up on the reconciliation between Hamas and Fatah, Quds Press reported.

Chief of the National Security Apparatus in Gaza Tawfiq Abu-Na’eem received the Egyptian delegation, headed by Sameh Nabeel who is in charge of the Palestinian file.

Egypt, which brokered the reconciliation agreement signed on 12 October last year, dispatched the security delegation to follow up the handover of the government to the Fatah-dominated Palestinian Authority.

A delegation from the PA government, based in Ramallah, arrived in the Gaza Strip and met with the Egyptian delegation. Nothing emerged from the meetings.

A senior Hamas delegation, including Hamas Chief Ismail Haniyeh, has been in Cairo since 9 February. The delegation held several meetings and discussed the humanitarian situation in Gaza, the reconciliation and border security.
