Bahrain upholds death sentence for man guilty of 'spying' for Iran

The Bahraini Court of Cassation yesterday upheld the death sentence against a Bahraini man who was convicted on several charges, including carrying out a terrorist bombing that killed a woman in 2016 and espionage.

The Bahraini authorities linked the 2016 deadly bombing to Iran.

In June 2017, the Fourth Criminal Superior Court sentenced one defendant to death and another person to life imprisonment and revoked their citizenship on charges related to the attack. The same court also sentenced seven people to three years’ imprisonment.

On 22 November the Supreme Court of Appeal upheld the verdict.
