Iran’s Foreign Minister has accused the United States and Britain of using the UN Security Council to try to cover-up for war crimes believed to have been committed by Saudi Arabia and the UAE in Yemen. Mohammad Javad Zarif made the allegation on Twitter.

“Desperate attempt @UNSC by US&UK to cover up complicity in 3 years of Saudi & Emirati war crimes in Yemen failed,” wrote the minister. He pointed out that, since the war started in Yemen, Tehran has called for a ceasefire, the entry of humanitarian aid, dialogue and the establishment of an inclusive government. “This not a delusion of military victory or accusations,” he concluded. “It remains the only solution.”

Zarif added that Yemen has witnessed massacres and thousands of deaths as well as epidemics and the displacement of millions of people.

Saudi Arabia has been leading an Arab coalition against Houthi rebels in Yemen since March 2015. The coalition, in which the UAE has a major role, is accused of killing civilians and committing war crimes, which it denies.
