Jordan raises electricity prices for third time since December

The Jordanian government yesterday raised electricity prices for the next month by two fils (0.3 cents) in its first decisions following a cabinet reshuffle.

The government’s decision to raise electricity prices came a few hours after the announcement of a reduction in the prices of gasoline and diesel at rates ranging between 0.6 – 1.5 per cent.

This is the third increase in electricity prices in Jordan since last December.

The government raised the value of the item by eight fils (1.2 cents) per kilowatt last month, preceded by an increase of four fils (0.6 cents) in December 2017.

There have been widespread protests following the decisions to raise prices.
