Egypt football legend Aboutreika announces return to Egypt

Former Egyptian national and Al-Ahly club legend Mohamed Aboutreika announced through his official Twitter account that he might be returning home “soon”.

The post received hundreds of congratulatory messages from football players, media professionals and journalists.

Aboutreika ignored requests for comments from journalists working for TV channels affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood including Mohammed Nasser and Osama Jaweish.

Aboutreika’s announcement came after the Court of Cassation recommended on Monday to cancel a ruling which put his name on a terror list for the alleged financing of banned groups along with 1,538 others. Aboutreika was accused in 2015 of funding the Muslim Brotherhood, which is now banned in Egypt.
