Iraq is keen to maintain strong relations with Saudi Arabia due to the latter’s “honourable” role in fighting terror and supporting the issues in the region, the Saudi newspaper Okaz reported on Sunday.

The source for the report was a statement issued by the media office of the Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Salim Al-Jabouri, following his meeting with Abdul Aziz Al-Shammari, the Saudi ambassador in Baghdad.

Iraq hailed the “positive” Saudi role regarding the rebuilding of Iraq and helping Iraqis and others displaced by Daesh terrorism. The Saudi ambassador stressed that his country is looking to have an investment role in the rebuilding of the country.

The officials discussed mutual relations as well as ways to develop economic links. Cooperation in the fight against terrorism was also on the agenda, along with security and political developments in Iraq and the rest of the region.
