Couple wed in border Return Camp

"I came here to stand with my people of all backgrounds and affiliations that have united against the occupation" says a Palestinian man on his wedding day in the Return Camp in Gaza

A Palestinian man held his wedding ceremony in the Return Camp near Gaza’s eastern border, expressing his commitment to the Right of Return.

Alaa Shaheen, who lives in the north of Gaza city, brought his bride and family to the camp to celebrate during the Great Return March.

Participants in the march joined the wedding celebration, carrying the groom from one tent to another while singing Palestinian folk songs. The tents were set up along Gaza’s border to imitate the Nakba refugee tents of 1948.

Nineteen Palestinians were killed by Israeli forces in Gaza and more than 1,500 others were wounded during the peaceful Great March of Return, which started last Friday to mark Palestine Land Day and call for the implementation of the Right of Return.
