The Palestinian Authority has praised the choice of the occupied city of Jerusalem as this year’s “capital of Arab tourism”, Quds Press reported on Sunday. The decision was announced by the Arab Tourism Organisation on Friday.

The organisation’s head, Fahd Al-Faheed, said that the choice of Jerusalem reflects the organisation’s interest in highlighting its historical and religious importance in the Arab world, and connecting the Arab population with the city.

“This decision is within the context of the Arab efforts to stand against US President Donald Trump’s move of the US Embassy to Jerusalem,” said a spokesman for the PA Ministry of Tourism. “It reiterates the fact that Jerusalem is an Arab city, and will remain the capital of the Palestinian state.” He called for Arabs to increase their visits to the holy city.
