A leader of the pro-government Popular Mobilisation Forces, Qassim Al-Zubaidi, was seriously injured after an assassination attempt in downtown Baghdad yesterday.
Al-Zubaidi, who serves as the force’s financial director, was walking around central Baghdad when unidentified assailants riding in a civilian car opened fire at him and shot him in various parts of his body.
The Popular Mobilisation Forces confirmed in a statement Al-Zubaidi’s injury adding that he was transferred to intensive care.
Deputy Head of the popular forces, Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandes, called on the security services to open an investigation into the incident.
The attack comes hours after a candidate for State of Law Coalition, Najm Al-Hassani, was killed to the north of Baghdad.
