May 3, 2018 at 9:28 am

Unknown gunmen kidnapped a German woman working for the International Red Cross (ICRC) last night in the Somali capital Mogadishu.

A source in the Red Cross told the Anadolu Agency that “gunmen kidnapped the German nurse and another employee and took them to an unknown location.”

No details were given regarding the other employee who was also taken.

“The kidnapping took place inside the organisation’s office in the West Bank suburb of Wadjer,” the source said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

“The gunmen who carried out the operation were part of a local security company working for the Red Cross,” according to a well-informed source.

As of 06:30 GMT, there was no comment on the abduction from the Red Cross office.

In April, a Red Cross employee was killed after his car was blown up in the centre of the capital.
