A leading psychiatrist at Egypt’s health ministry said that 8.2 million Egyptians are suffering from anxiety and mood disorders, according to Anadolu Agency.

Menan Abdel Maqsoud, the head of Psychological Health and Addiction Therapy at the ministry, told local media outlets that “3 percent of Egyptians have anxiety and mood disorders.” Egypt has 194 million people, 94 million of whom live inside the country, according to the 2017 census.

“There are plans to start analysing the numbers and figuring out the causes so as to avoid the problems causing this and bring down this figure to zero,” she added.

Abdel Maqsoud also said that there are plans to provide therapy programs.

According to psychiatrists, there are several types of mental disorders, the most notable of which are anxiety and depression, Anadolu Agency reported.
