Hamas has the right to defend the Palestinian people and response to the Israeli occupation’s aggression, targeting and assassination operations in Rafah and in the northern Gaza Strip.

The movement’s spokesperson, Fawzy Barhoom said in a statement: “The Israeli occupation bears full responsibility for any upcoming escalation.”

The occupation army announced that the Israeli settlements were subjected to rocket shelling yesterday morning with more than 27 mortar shells and missiles that the Israeli defence system the Iron Dome could not intercept. No one was hurt as a result.

Israel launched several raids on the Gaza Strip.

More than 120 peaceful Palestinian protesters have been killed by Israeli fire since 30 March when they began taking part in protests demanding their right to return to their ancestral homes, the end to the 12-year-old siege of the Strip and condemned the transfer of the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. The international community, including the UN, have called for an independent inquiry in to Israel’s targeting of protesters. Tel Aviv has refused such a measure.

As a result, the United States called on the United Nations Security Council to hold an emergency meeting today in New York to condemn the rocket attacks.

“The recent attacks out of Gaza are the largest we have seen since 2014,” US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley said in a statement she issue to the media.

Haley has previously said the UN “reeks of anti-Israel bias” and said under her President Donald Trump, the US would no longer allow this to happen.
