Palestinians take cover after Israeli forces fire tear gas at protesters at the Gaza-Israel border on 14th May 2018

Hamas yesterday praised the role Kuwait played in blocking a UN draft statement which calls on resistance movements in the Gaza Strip to stop what it called “violent activities and provocative actions”.

Izzat Al-Risheq, member of Hamas’ political bureau, said: “This honourable position reflects the genuineness of the Kuwaiti Emir, government and people in standing with Palestine, its just cause and the legitimate struggle of its people.”

Al-Risheq considered this Kuwaiti position “a new success that is added to the series of Kuwaiti diplomatic successes in advocating the Palestinian right and exposing the US administration’s double standards in dealing with the Palestinian cause.”

On Tuesday, America called for an emergency UN Security Council meeting to discuss rocket fire from the Gaza Strip in to Israel in response to Tel Aviv’s near daily shelling of Palestinian land.

Al-Risheq urged “the diplomats in all Arab and Islamic countries to carry out their role in defending the Palestinian people and supporting their struggle and legitimate resistance in all international forums.”
