Air Iran will receive 11 new passenger planes this year despite the US’ withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear deal and the reimposition of economic sanctions on Tehran, Iranian IRNA news agency said yesterday.

Chairwoman and CEO of Iran Air, Farzaneh Sharafbafi, said: “We are expecting to receive 11 new passenger planes by the end of this year, including eight planes from turboprop maker ATR and three from Airbus.”

Sharafbafi made the remarks during a meeting organised by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) in Sydney.

Last month, the United States pulled out of the Iran nuclear deal and announced the reimposition of economic sanctions on Iran.

Many international companies began preparing to exit the Iranian market ahead of imposition of the US sanctions which are expected to take effect in August.
