Palestinian Authority (PA) employees working in Gaza’s three border crossings continued their strike for the second consecutive day to protest against the non-payment of salaries.

Eyewitnesses at the Kerem Abu Salem (Kerem Shalom) crossing said the customs officials of all government ministries closed their offices and stopped the passage of trucks through the crossing.

The employees started their strike at 8am on Wednesday.

Ma’an news agency reported that so far no one has contacted the staff to resolve the crisis.

The employees are protesting against forced retirement and demanding their salaries are paid in full as well as to calling for them a system of promotions to be reactivated. The PA must treat all staff equally no matter where they are based, they said.
