The value of the Sudanese pound (SDG) fell yesterday as the US dollar value increased to 43.5 SDG compared to 41 SDG last week, traders said.

“The US dollar is gaining popularity in Dubai and Gulf cities where most deals are made after the Sudanese government banned foreign exchange dealings within the country,” they said.

The traders pointed out that the buying and selling of foreign exchange is taking place in foreign markets, especially Gulf capitals as a result.

In April, the Sudanese government approved a draft law which prevents non-authorised parties from commercial transactions in foreign exchange.
