The Yemeni Ministry of Endowments has called on the competent security authorities in the city of Aden to stand firmly against the assassination and acts of terrorism practiced against the city’s clerics, muslim scholars and imams.

In a statement the ministry stressed on the need to expedite the prosecution of the perpetrators and bring them to justice.

The ministry issued the statement a few hours after the assassination of Sheikh Mohammed Bazareih, the imam of Abdullah Azzam Mosque in the city of Maala in Aden, after evening prayers on Saturday. The identities of the gunmen remains unknown.

Since mid-July 2015 Aden has witnessed bombings, assassinations and kidnappings targeting security and government headquarters, clerics as well as security and army officials.

Unofficial figures indicate that there have been some 400 assassinations targeting military, social and religious figures over the past two years.
