5 female Palestinian journalists held in Israel jails

July 26, 2018 at 9:45 am

Palestinian writer Lama Khater became the fifth female journalist to be held in Israeli jails, Safa news agency reported a monitoring group saying.

The Committee in Support of Journalists said: “The detention of the journalist Lama Khater is part of a massive campaign carried out by the Israeli occupation against the Palestinian activists in the occupied West Bank.”

The occupation’s treatment of the journalists reflects its “revengeful” policies against journalists that uncover Israeli crimes against Palestinians.

There are currently 23 journalists being held in Israeli jails with Khater being the latest victim to the occupation’s attack on freedom of speech and expression.

Khater was arrested late on Monday night when occupation forces stormed her home. She is said to be undergoing harsh interrogations in Ashkelon prison as a result of accusations of incitement. The 42-year-old is a mother of five, the youngest of which is just two years old.
