Algeria: 1,510 killed in traffic accidents in 6 months

In the first half of this year alone, 1,510 people had been killed in Algeria and 11,507 injured in road traffic accidents, according to the Algerian National Centre for Prevention and Road Safety.

The number of accidents for the first half of the year declined by 6.89 per cent compared to the same period last year. Deaths have also dropped by 10.91 per cent and injuries by 9.56 per cent, the centre added.

The country had already witnessed a drop in accident numbers in 2017, with 25,038 accidents in total, 3.8 per cent less than those which took place in 2016.

Algeria is marked as “High Risk” by the Travel Map Risk website for its road safety standards.
