Saudi authorities arrest senior cleric over tweet

Saudi authorities have arrested preacher Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Fawzan over a Tweet in which he expressed his opinion on the suppression of sheikhs and preachers, social media activists have said.

According to Twitter account Prisoners of Conscious, the professor of Comparative jurisprudence at the Higher Institute of Comparative Jurisprudence at the Imam Muhammad Bin Saud Islamic University was banned from travelling and using social media two weeks ago.

The group had warned he may be arrested soon.

Saudi security services have arrested several scholars and preachers, most notably Sheikh Salman Al-Ouda, over the past year.
