Tunisian Defence Minister Abdelkarim Zbidi met with Algerian Ambassador to Tunisia, Abdelkader Hajjar to discuss security issues especially along their shared border.

The pair have established close military exchanges to counter the threat of terrorist groups in the region.

The meeting came only days after a terrorist attack carried out against a Tunisian security patrol in Ghardimaou region, close to the Algerian border.

During Interior Minister Noureddine Badawi’s visit to the border crossing situated between Algeria and Tunisia a few days ago, he stressed that Tunisian border security is as vital as that of Algeria.

There have been reports that the two countries plan to establish 60 observation posts along their shared border.

Some unofficial information spoke of an agreement between Algeria and Tunisia on the establishment of 60 observation posts along their border as part of border security plan drawn up in accordance with the latest security developments. Some of these points will be movable with military patrols, and others will monitor any movement of terrorist groups on the borders of the two countries.
