A high voltage electricity line between Kirkuk and Diyala was blown up by terrorists on Thursday in an act of “sabotage”, the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity said yesterday.

This left the provinces of Kirkuk, Nineveh and parts of Saladin without electricity. Ministry engineers have since repaired the line and service to the 400 kilovolt transmitter was restored.

As many as “20 electricity towers in different areas north of Baghdad have suffered from acts of sabotage during the past few months,” ministry sources have said.

Iraq has witness weeks of popular protests calling for an end to corruption and improved living conditions including uninterrupted electricity services.
