The Syrian government has guaranteed the safety and security of refugees who choose to return to the country, Russia’s Centre for Refugee Reception, Distribution and Settlement has said.

“The Syrian leadership continues its extensive work to repatriate refugees and confirms its readiness to resolve the issues of security guarantees, job creation, housing, assistance in the recovery of documents, as well as the provision of humanitarian assistance to Syrians abroad as well as internally displaced persons,” it said in a statement.

The statement pointed out that the National Security Office and the Ministry of Reconciliation in Syria are coordinating all activities to monitor the return of refugees, prepare places for their stay, restore infrastructure and carry out humanitarian work.

Earlier, the centre said that based on preliminary data, 1,712,166 Syrians have expressed their desire to return to Syria from eight countries including Lebanon, Turkey, Germany, Jordan, Iraq, Egypt, Denmark and Brazil.

Land, sea and air crossing points have been established to facilitate their return, it added.
