Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif yesterday described US President Donald Trump, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman as “symbols of mistrust and violence in the world”.

Zarif’s remarks came a day before the first package of US sanctions against Iran entered into force, which will affect the financial sector and Iranian industries. The US is scheduled to impose another package of sanctions against the oil sector in November.

“These three people are symbols of violence and mistrust in the world. They violate international agreements, infringe on the Palestinian people’s rights, and one of them detains the prime minister of another country as a hostage,” Zarif told reporters.

Zarif said that Trump, Netanyahu and Bin Salman are now in international isolation, not Iran, questioning the seriousness of Trump’s proposal for dialogue.

Iran “always supports dialogue” while Washington must prove that it is interested in talks.

Zarif accused the US president of seeking to create unrest in Iran, condemning Washington’s imposition of sanctions on the Iranian airlines while “the US administration claims to stand by the Iranian people”.
