Saudi Arabia finds 1.5m visa violators

Saudi authorities announced the arrest of 1,523,000 expats who had violated the country’s visa laws in the past nine months.

The official Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported that a campaign to identify visa violators was launched on 17 November 2017 and came to a close last Thursday.

According to SPA, 1,154,000 people violated the residency system, 251,000 violated the labour system, and 118,000 violated the border security system.

Immediate punishments were imposed against 260,000 violators, some 213,000 violators were sent to their diplomatic missions to obtain travel documents, 262,000 were ordered to complete their travel bookings while 385,000 violators were deported, SPA added.

No details were given regarding the remaining violators.
